This is the towering red rock formation or butte that greets you as you enter the stunning Lee’s Ferry recreation area in Northern Arizona.
Lees Ferry Recreation Area — overview
Location: Northern Arizona on the Colorado River at the upstream end of the Grand Canyon, near the Arizona–Utah border, accessible via US Highway 89A.
Significance: Historic crossing point and boat launch for Grand Canyon river trips; only legal river access between Glen Canyon Dam and the Grand Canyon for private and commercial trips.
Recreation: Fishing (notably rainbow and brown trout), river rafting and kayaking, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, and historic site interpretation.
Facilities: Boat launch ramps, parking, campground (fee-based, first-come first-served and reservation options vary), restrooms, picnic areas, visitor center/registration for river trips, and limited potable water.
Fishing details: Tailwater fishery below Glen Canyon Dam supports year-round trout fishing; special regulations and license requirements apply.
